The City Council is hosting a "Day Out Against Hate" Thursday in the Bronx and the rest of the city.The council is holding the event in response to the increase in hate crimes within the last year. City Council Speaker Christine Quinn says hate crimes have risen more than 20 percent in the city.Elected officials, education leaders, clergy members and the Anti-Defamation League will take part in the citywide event. There will be roundtable discussions and lessons of tolerance at schools across the city.In the Bronx, an after-school program will hold a lesson focusing on tolerance. The event will take place at Richard Green Middle School at 3170 Barnes Ave.
