The decriminalization of street vending in New York City will soon be law.

Local Law 122, the first bill from the Street Vendor Reform Package, will be enacted into law.

The bill ensures that vendors will no longer receive a criminal misdemeanor for a vending-related violation. Vendors who hold licenses or permits can now only receive a civil penalty for violations, like most small businesses.

Meanwhile, vendors who don’t have licenses or permits will still receive a ticket but will no longer face the threat of a judge issuing a criminal misdemeanor.
