Critics of Gov. Andrew Cuomo rallied outside state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie’s Bronx office with plans to sleep outside overnight Friday.
They’re calling on the speaker to impeach the governor and pass a progressive state budget.
The state budget proposal would tax the wealthiest New Yorkers. They want $3.5 billion in funding for excluded workers which are undocumented employers that were laid off due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that don’t qualify for stimulus or unemployment benefits despite paying taxes.
They’re also asking for the state budget to include more rent relief because many of them say they are facing eviction despite an eviction moratorium.
