The Department of Environmental Protection says water has been restored after a main break in Park Slope, though residents should avoid consuming it from the tap.
The DEP says the tap water may be discolored and should not be ingested, though it’s not harmful.
The break happened on Fourth Avenue and Bergen Street around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Officials say a contractor who was hired by a private company was operating a drill rig when they hit a water main.
The DEP says water had to be shut off gradually because of the size of the main. They say the flooding was brought under control by 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Officials say those responsible will be billed for all the costs.
The city says everyone who was evacuated has been offered relocation assistance.
