Parents of students at P.S. 90 received word Friday that the Sheridan Avenue school will be phased out and replaced with two others by 2011.
P.S. 90, or George Meany School, received some of the lowest raw progress report scores in the city. Officials say it had an F in student achievement and a D in student performance.
Kindergarten through second-grade classes will close in June, and two new schools will open in September, and third- and fourth-grade classes, too, will be phased out.
Many parents, meanwhile, are hesitant to move their children, and the Teachers Union argues closing schools is more expensive than improving them.
The Department of Education says current kindergarteners and first-graders will have priority admission for the new schools.
