The Department of Sanitation plans to install 115 new cameras in an effort to crackdown on illegal dumping.
DSNY says there are currently about 165 cameras in known illegal dumping locations. One of those cameras recently caught an individual in broad daylight in the Bronx.
DSNY tweeted the footage, which showed a man in a Honda Accord taking several bags out of his trunk and leaving them on the sidewalk.
The individual seen in the video was issued $4,000 in fines and their car was impounded.
DSNY says the use of camera systems has helped the issue significantly. It says the cameras have led to a 282% increase in impounded cars.
A total of 92 summons have also been given, which is an increase of 318% from last year.
The 115 new cameras are in the process of being installed at hotspots before the summer ends, according to DSNY. Each camera also has the ability to be moved to a different spot.
