The owners and volunteers of a community fridge in Allerton are calling for the ones who destroyed it to come forward.
The incident which happened earlier this week was captured on surveillance video and shows a group of kids destroying the fridge.
"This makes me so sad. [It's] something that I do from my heart," says Ignacio Collado who is the owner of a tire shop on Boston Road. Collado says he actually recognizes the kids in the video.
"When they come after school, they ask, 'Do you have any strawberries or any grapes?' We even save it for them if we don't have a lot," he says.
The community fridge is fully stocked every night with fresh produce, bread, and whatever Collado says he can get his hands on. He says he brings this food to the community because it's something that he learned from his high school teacher.
One resident says he comes to the fridge often and he's thankful the fridge is still there to provide food to the community. He adds it's heartbreaking that the fridge was destroyed.
Collado says that he and the fridge's volunteers are not looking to press charges on the kids. They actually want them to come forward, volunteer and give back to their community.
