City officials broke ground Friday on a multimillion-dollar project to transform Van Nest Park.
Community groups fought for years to get a makeover for the aging park and now their efforts have paid off. Designers plan to use the Van Nest train station as their inspiration for the new playground. The improved park will also feature drinking fountains as well as new spray showers.
The new playground is expected to be complete by early next year.
