More outdoor dining space is coming to the South Bronx to help restaurants and neighborhoods recover.
An outdoor dining design will be installed for community dining and programming on Willis Avenue Friday.
That means a section of the street will be closed off. Open Streets on Willis Avenue is being launched by several organizations, which is an expansion of DineOut NYC's Communal Outdoor Dining Program.
Closing the streets down for outdoor dining will give restaurants and store fronts an opportunity to pick back up business if they were financially impacted by the COVID-19 shutdown.
DineOut NYC's sidewalk seating will be extended with dining pavilions, outdoor furniture and a public space for the neighborhood. Custom murals will also be displayed by local Bronx artists.
The Third Avenue BID is partnering with Street Lab to offer Play NYC, a hands-free play area for children, closed off to the streets.
Masks will be required in this closed off section of Willis Avenue and free ones will be handed out along with hand sanitizer.
