The New York City Department of Correction organized a walk against gang violence Saturday morning in Brooklyn.
The walk is part of the department’s efforts to speak with parents about red flags in teens that indicate that they may have joined a gang. They also aim to prevent teens from ending up in Rikers Island in the process.
NYPD’s 81st Precinct, the Brooklyn district attorney, the local clergy and other community leaders are also joining in the walk.
The DOC says that they are planning more future walks and workshops at local churches.
