A new documentary about one of New Jersey’s most beloved adopted sons is set to hit movie theaters on Friday.

Yogi Berra is a pop culture icon. But was he overlooked as a baseball player?

Berra won three MVPs, was an all-star 18 times and has 10 World Series rings.

The documentary “It Ain’t Over,” looks back on the traits that made Berra a successful pitchman and pop culture phenom – things that may have undermined his historical prowess on the field.

Berra’s son, Dale Berra, played in the big leagues for 10 years. He says that managers, coaches and executives were his father’s contemporaries, so they all got it.

“They all affirmed how amazing that dad was, how feared he was as a player. How you couldn’t pitch to him, you couldn’t strike him out…They always said, [Mickey Mantle] was amazing, but the guy we feared was your dad,” Dale Berra says.

The documentary features the likes of Derek Jeter and Billy Crystal. Berra’s granddaughter narrates the film.
