Election season has come early for the Department of Education, and they want parents filling up seats on a variety of education councils.
Chancellor David Banks announced Monday that families of students with disabilities in D-75 schools or programs can now vote for a representative to sit on each community educational council for the first time ever.
In the
past, D-75 parents only qualified for seats on the citywide council for
D-75 and the citywide council on special education. This new process is meant to be a huge help for parents with students at schools like P-3, 9, 6 and K.
Parents
can apply to start running Monday through Feb. 13.
Candidate forums will take place starting Feb. 27 through Apr. 20, and voting begins Apr. 21 and ends on May 9.
Voting results will be announced in June with the new members taking their seats on
Jul. 1.
