Samyia Spain, 19, was fatally stabbed on Sunday morning, and her twin sister was stabbed and hospitalized in the same incident.
Witnesses tell News 12 that the two victims were approached and hit on by two men. When the two men were rejected by these women, the two men retaliated, stabbing the women.
"We was at a party and we just had left and we went to the store to get food,” said one eyewitness who asked to remain anonymous. He says that’s where the situation escalated.
“One of her friends just took of their shirts and tried to put compression on her neck to try and contain the bleeding and she was gushing blood just down her entire body,” he said.
Chrissy Monroe is a domestic violence advocate and survivor, and says that while the witness accounts haven’t been confirmed by police, it’s importance to raise awareness of these acts of violence and how people respond to them.
"So many women have experienced being assaulted, verbally, physically, humiliated, just because you want to say no to a guy that's hitting on you,” said Monroe, who is also the founder of Survive to Thrive Global. "I've seen a lot of comments on victim blaming. That ‘Oh, they shouldn't of been out that late’. They have every right to be anywhere they want to be without being bothered or assaulted.”
Police say that at this time, no suspects are in custody and no arrests have been made in this stabbing incident.
