The Department of Transportation has announced that they are turning on additional red light cameras at intersections throughout New York City.

The agency says cameras will be activated at 50 new locations per week over the next five weeks.

The cameras were in place at just 150 intersections prior to the expansion because it was the maximum number previously allowed under state law.

DOT officials say cameras will be activated at 600 intersections citywide by the end of the year.
