The city Department of Transportation says it will simplify travel to Randalls Island from Mott Haven and Port Morris for bicyclists and pedestrians.
The DOT says it is adding an additional 1.7 miles of bike lanes on St. Anns Avenue, East 133rd Street and Willow Avenue.
The renovated lanes come with a painted barrier protecting bicyclists from cars and trucks.
Those who work at businesses on the streets say parking is now a concern, because the plan gets rid of more than 60 spots.
The DOT says it has proposed other options to offset the loss of parking.
