The NYC Department of Transportation announced that starting Nov. 14, two streets in Downtown Brooklyn will be converting its routes to include more bus lanes, along with diverting traffic one-way, in order to improve commute times.

"Faster bus commutes help riders get to their destinations quicker and encourage more people to leave their cars behind and take mass transit," said Mona Bruno, who serves as a Deputy Press Secretary for the NYC Department of Transportation.

In Downtown Brooklyn, on Livingston Street, in between Gallatin Place and Flatbush Avenue will become one-way westbound for general traffic, and will have two-way protected bus lanes. Another road where traffic being re-routed includes Schermerhorn Street, between Boerum Place and Smith Street.

"This two-way protected bus lane will improve bus speeds and reliability for the 30,000 daily bus riders along Livingston Street," added Bruno. "NYC DOT will continue to monitor bus performance and adjust as needed." "I think it is a fabulous idea. There are too many cars, and it does slow down the buses," said Brooklyn's Les Hedges.

The Department of Transportation acknowledged traffic will be converted one-way westbound for general traffic, and there will be two-way protected bus lanes.
