Residents say Baychester Avenue in Eastchester has become congested and dangerous for pedestrians.
The Department of Transportation has plans to reduce deaths or serious injuries of pedestrians on Baychester Avenue between East 233rd Street and Boston Road.
According to the DOT there have been 210 total injuries between 2010 and 2014 with one pedestrian fatality.
With the community's push, the DOT is proposing installing a pedestrian island, adding angled parking spaces and upgrading to high visibility crosswalks.
The DOT is currently working on implementing the traffic measures and says it should wrap up by early fall.
