Dozens of people showed their respects in Throgs Neck Friday and remembered the lives lost on Sept. 11 and in the years following.
The 9/11 monument in Throgs Neck has become a go-to place for friends and family to remember their loved ones lost.
For some families, it’s the only place they go to on this day. It memorializes those who were from the Throgs Neck area.
"We made a promise that morning on 9/11 to never forget. Nineteen years later, we're here to back it up,” said firefighter from Engine 71 Michael Rahilly.
There are 15 names engraved but about 150 names were read aloud and they included both people who passed on that day or in the years following 9/11-related illnesses.
Rahilly organizes the day every year and says the pandemic wasn’t going to stop them.
"We refused to allow this not to happen. We were going to find a way to do it and we did,” said Rahilly.
