Snow started falling heavily Wednesday afternoon in Soundview.
Drivers were taking extra precautions on the roads as snow began to accumulate and visibility decreased.
Meteorologists say that drivers should expect messy roads for the evening commute.
As temperatures drop, there is also potential for black ice on the roads.
It is advised to stay warm and if possible, stay off the roads.
Heavy snow could leave up to 10 inches on the ground by the time the storm is over later Wednesday evening.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday.
