Every year on April 22, we celebrate the Earth. The
environmental movement started back in 1970 was created to acknowledge the
importance of our climate and how we can protect it.
Earth Day is a great way to raise awareness on
climate change and volunteer in your community. Here are three effective ways
you can help the environment on Earth Day.
REDUCE
Be a part of the change. Minimizing the amount
of waste that will need to be recycled or sent to the landfill will help
sustain the environment for future generations. Reducing greenhouse gas
emissions will prevent pollution. Something as simple as riding a bike, walking
more and even turning off the lights when you’re not home can help the
environment.
REUSE
Know before you throw. We all know the phrase
“One man's trash is another man’s treasure” and by reusing or repurposing
clothing, grocery bags and containers – it can help prevent waste. Also,
donating unwanted items can help others in need. Volunteering to clean the
neighborhood and spread awareness of the climate crisis is not only helping
your community but helping the world.
RECYCLE
Start in your community. Educating students and
their parents on the importance of recycling can make a major impact in your
community. Recycling natural resources saves energy and even helps create jobs
in the recycling and manufacturing industries. Recycling can also save you
money, such as investing in energy-saving appliances and recycling used items
that don’t need to be manufactured. Making a difference in your community is
the first step you can take in helping the planet.
