After being closed for a two-year reconstruction, the East 168th Street steps in Claremont are finally open.
The steps connect Clay Avenue and Teller Avenue. They consist of 102 granite steps, nine separate flights and rises 58 feet from the lowest to highest points.
City officials say the new steps will change the lives of residents.
“They are connectors and passageways for many residents that are traveling in our community,” said Councilmember Vanessa L. Gibson.
The steps also connect people to the select bus service route on Webster Avenue and the local elementary school.
