Residents in Eastchester say they are getting the run around from the Parks Department when it comes to removing trees in bad shape.

A broken sidewalk, ripped power lines and an uprooted tree is what some Eastchester residents say they are tired of dealing with.

"If that tree would've come down an hour earlier, all the kids were out here trick-or-treating," says resident Robin Rodriguez.

They say it’s been a back and forth battle with the city's Parks Department to get the dilapidated-looking trees on their block removed.

"They say we are not allowed to touch the trees, not allowed to trim them or do anything to them,” says Sherrye Samuels.

They say what they were hoping to avoid is exactly what happened, as powerful winds from Thursday’s storm downed a tree in their neighborhood. Thankfully no one was hurt.

“Either cut them down so that their manageable and are not in the wires or remove them completely. You can see its causing damage on the side walk,” says Samuels.

The Department of Transportation hit several residents with a violation notice due to the conditions of their sidewalks. However according to the letter, they are not obligated to pay if the damage is done by tree roots.

"It's going to come down to the fact that something terrible is going to happen to someone. We had trees come down on cars, on my house and others on the block,” says Samuels.

The Parks Department said in a statement, "Once Con Edison clears this location for safety, we will remove the tree debris from the sidewalk. We ask that tree conditions be reported to 311; but in cases of emergency that New Yorkers call 911."

"It’s getting colder and we don't want something else like this happening over and over,” says Samuels.
