A musician from Easton is packing up his instrument and heading to Manhattan to participate in the 9/11-themed show "Come From Away."
Being part of a Broadway show has always been a dream of musician Carl Carter.
“I was touring a lot with different artists for years. I wanted to get into the Broadway world,” says Carter.
Admiring the productions for years has made Carter appreciative of the shows.
“They are all special in their own way but 'Come From Away' is a whole different beast, if you will,” the musician says.
Carter says the show is about the tale of flights and passengers stranded on an island in Canada on Sept. 11.
“It's a true story... that’s the beautiful thing,” says the Easton native.
Carter relates to the production as he was once stranded in a foreign country.
“I was stuck for give days and they took care of me, similar story with Gander,” says the bass player.
Unfortunately, the production was halted due to the pandemic.
“We got the call, 'Come pick up your instruments because we don't know when we are coming back,'” says Carter.
The rides on the train, eight shows a week - all suddenly came to a stop.
Carter says he misses the audience and sound of applause, saying in part, “Just the love...that's what I am really looking forward to getting back to just sharing that.”
But the bass player tells News 12 he found himself home in Easton with time on his hands.
“Two, three albums of music appeared…now I am about to release it next spring,” says Carter.
With the curtains rising again on Sept. 21, Carter knows the future is fragile.
“We’ll just I guess deal with it whenever we face it, whatever that is,” says the musician. “We need this show right now, the world needs the show right now.”
Carter will travel to the Lincoln Memorial on Sept. 10 to perform a concert version of "Come From Away" for the 9/11 anniversary.
