Edenwald tenants fear forced eviction after fire leaves them with no heat and water

Tenants stood outside of their apartments on Monday, after a fire at 3805 Dyer Ave. left them without heat and water.

Officials say they received the call of a fire on the third floor of the Edenwald building on Sunday at 1:38am.

"The experience was very traumatizing," said one tenant.

While some tenants grapple with the terrifying moment, others had their bags outside ready to escape to a hotel.

"We've been living in the apartment, no gas, just wearing as much layers as we can, and we've been ordering take out food because we can't cook," said another tenant, Cemal.

Tenants were also feeling confused after the property owner, Zakaria Alsayidi, ordered them to "vacate the building immediately."

A spokesperson for the Department of Housing Preservation and Development told News 12 tenants will be issued a vacate order on Wednesday and they will continue to
