Mayor Bill de Blasio says seniors will receive the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. De Blasio says the FDNY will be going to naturally occurring retirement communities where there are seniors, some of whom may be homebound, to help vaccinate them.
"So, right now outreach is being made, doors are being knocked on," says de Blasio. "Seniors who need this vaccination in their home are being identified and they're going to be reached starting today. And that effort will grow as supply increases."
A mass vaccination site also opened in Co-op City Thursday in the Bronx. That site will be run by the city's Department of Health. The department plans to administer about 500 vaccines a day at first and eventually give out 1,000 shots a day.
