Senior citizens living in a Melrose apartment building say their building's sole elevator has been broken for more than a month and that they are forced to climb the stairs.
Building management at 441 East 155th St. notified tenants of an elevator shutdown on Sept. 22, stating that the elevator would be out of order for two to three months.
News 12 reached out to building management, which says it has hired two additional employees to assist tenants up to their apartments. It also says it has nurses going door to door and offered to move some upper-floor tenants to the building's first floor, and relocate tenants to another address.
Management tells News 12 it has had a repair crew working on the elevator seven days a week and hopes to have it up and running a month ahead of schedule.
