A disabled and elderly woman has been left with a makeshift kitchen after NYCHA removed half of it to repair what she says was months of water damage in her Claremont apartment.

Rosetta Williams, 81, says management had to rip out her cabinets, counter space, and sink, leaving her to store her kitchen supplies around the house.

"I use my washing machine as my cutting board," says Williams.

Williams says after weeks without half of her kitchen she called management to see when repairs would be done and she was stunned by their response.

"The lady said well they have an appointment for June 2026.. I said what," said Williams.

Williams is not only a cancer patient but she says she was also diagnosed with arthritis which makes it difficult to go back of fourth in her house to grab supplies.

"I have to go back get stuff, come back get stuff, go back again I'm tired of that," said Williams.

News 12 reached out to NYCHA and they responded with the following statement:

"NYCHA staff visited the apartment today and scheduled plastering work to begin on Monday. There is currently no active leak in the apartment. NYCHA encourages residents in need of assistance to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 or submit work tickets through the MyNYCHA application."
