Elected officials joined community leaders, neighbors and Holocaust survivors to announce how new investments from the state budget will enhance the quality of life in Coney Island.
Council Member Mark Treyger, who is also a former educator, says the increase in funding will ensure that students citywide will have vital programs and resources readily available to them.
"For the first time, an investment over $6 million to NYC school budget…it will make every school in NYC 100% funded," Treyger says. "It will better meet the needs of our kids.”
The state budget has also doubled the amount of money dedicated to combatting gun violence by recommitting funding to the SNUG program and the Coney Island Anti-Violence Collaborative.
Holocaust survivors are prioritized through the state budget as well. The new funds will ensure they are provided with resources for case management in housing, food isolation and more.
