Tenants who live at 990 Aldus Ave. say they feel trapped after their elevator has been down for more than a month.
"I do feel like a hostage, I only go outside if I have to, my kids fortunately, were able to help me, this is a month of laundry literally," said Tracy Hazellwood.
Tenants say this is not uncommon for the six-story building that is managed by Kraus Management Inc. News 12 reached out to them about the issue but have not yet gotten a response.
"We've called, they've come and put summons, a part is coming, a part is coming, what part? When is it coming, this is insane, we are tired," said Sherylle Rosario who lives on the fourth floor.
Rosario says it's become difficult to do daily tasks.
"Laundry has to be done, groceries has to be bought, this is insane," said Rosario.
A handful of building tenants are elderly, and rely on wheel chairs and walkers to get around. Jauna Neive lives on the sixth floor, she is wheelchair bound and on oxygen. Her caregiver says she has been stuck in the apartment since the elvator went down a month ago and has missed four doctors appointments.
"I am her home attendant but I can't get her out, she's missed like four appointments," said Neive's caregiver who did not want to be identified by name.
Sobeida Guance says she has filled multiple 311 complaints, but there has yet to be a solution.
"They keep saying they're waiting for a part, now it's too much, with this hot weather, someone can have a heart attack or a stroke," said Guance.
