Doctors, nurses, and other front-line workers within the Acacia Network are getting a boost of protection against the coronavirus. 

On Friday, several essential workers were administered their first dose of the Moderna vaccine at the Claremont Family Center on East 174th Street.

The family clinic is one of the three Bronx health centers within the Acacia Network now administering the Moderna vaccine for its essential workers and vulnerable residents. 

Kevin Pritchett, a physician assistant, says his vaccination gives him peace of mind now that he’s protecting himself and those around him. 

Clinical trials show that the Moderna vaccine protects against the coronavirus up to 95% after the second shot, which is given 28 days later after the first. 

Dr. David  Collymore says it is needed because the virus continues to devastate communities of color. 

He says getting inoculated will help reduce the spread. The Acacia Network says within a matter of a few weeks, it vaccinated more than 300 of its essential workers.
