An event was held in the Bronx Wednesday to help veterans learn about resources and services available to them.
The event was held at the Samuel Young American Legion Post 620 off of East Tremont Avenue and organized by the Bronx borough president’s Veterans Advisory Council.
“We have representatives from the Building Department, from colleges, from Social Security to Education to Catholic Charities. There is an organization for almost any need a veteran can ask for,” says Joseph Mondello, of the Bronx Veterans Advisory Council.
Veterans who attended the event got to ask the representatives various questions about the services offered to them. Non-veterans also attended the event to get information for loved ones.
Veteran Orlando Alvarez attended the event to learn about getting into a veteran’s shelter.
“I want to get my own apartment, you know, privacy, and get a job,” he says.
