Gov. Kathy Hochul is taking extra measures to ensure new and expecting mothers are given the resources they need to stay alive and healthy with the signing of a new bill.

The new legislation aims to take a stand against maternal and infant mortality here at home. The bill aims to establish a New York state doula directory that easily connects New Yorkers with doulas, and reduces obstacles in receiving better care.

Gov. Hochul says doula coverage will also be made available to all Medicaid enrollees starting Jan.1 of 2024 and announced the extension of Medicaid postpartum coverage from 60 days to an entire year. The governor also highlighted the $4.5 million in annual funding allocated for regional perinatal centers secured in this year's fiscal budget

"They're the advocates, they're the champions who stand up and question a decision that someone else may not be in a condition to or have the understanding to do," said Gov. Hochul.
