A former correction officer was sentenced Tuesday for smuggling contraband into Rikers Island.
Officials say Kyrstle Burrell, 36, was sentenced to 29 months in prison for smuggling contraband into the facility in exchange for nearly $10,000 in bribe payments
Prosecutors say she smuggled cell phones and accepted payments for narcotics while she worked as a correction officer at Rikers Island.
