The family of 18-year-old Raymond Chaluisant is demanding justice after he was shot and killed Thursday morning.

Police have since arrested a city correction officer and charged him with murder.

Chaluisant's family says he was going to McDonalds with a friend and that they had been playing with pellet-like water guns.

"He never made it back home," said Lida Esquilian. "He was having a good time with his friends, and he lost his life over a game, having fun on a very hot day."

Police confirm that a toy pellet gun was found at the scene but it remains to be seen if that pellet gun played a role in this shooting. Similar guns known as "bead blasters" have been going viral on social media as part of a TikTok trend.

Police say Raymond was shot in the face around 1 a.m. Thursday on the corner of East Tremont Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway.

The person in custody, correction officer Dion Middleton, was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

Judge Jeffrey Zimmerman of the Bronx Criminal Court set bail at $1 million bond or partially secured bond, with $500,000 cash or credit card alternatives, the Office of the Attorney General says.

"My office is committed to a thorough and transparent investigation of every case where an officer of the law may have caused a death," Attorney General Letitia James says in a statement. "I offer my sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Chaluisant, and the people of New York have my pledge that we will work to see that justice is served."
