Family, friends and community members gathered at Williamsbridge Oval Park to honor the life of 14-year-old Angel Mendoza, who was fatally stabbed during a fight on Aug. 5.
Through tears, his mother cried out for justice, while his father remembered him as kind and easygoing.
“No one has the right to take another person’s life,” he said.
Four teenagers, the youngest just 15, have been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the stabbing. But Mendoza’s family believes others may still be involved.
Elected officials are also calling for added safety measures at the park, while Mendoza’s loved ones prepare to lay him to rest. His funeral will be held Saturday at the Ortiz Funeral Home, and the family is raising money to return his body to the Dominican Republic.
