A Bronx family is mourning the loss of a 7-year-old boy who was killed after an SUV slammed into a fast food restaurant Thursday night.
Police say at around 5:30 p.m. 73-year-old Kwasi Oduro backed his Mercedes Benz SUV over the curb and slammed into the front of Kennedy's Chicken and Sandwiches by the corner of Westchester and Colonial avenues.
Ethan Villavicencio was eating dinner with his 34-year-old father and his 5-year-old sister inside the restaurant at the time of the crash.
He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Both Villavicencio's father and sister were injured in the crash and are recovering Friday at Jacobi Medical Center.
Police say Oduro fled the scene, but was caught and arrested just a few blocks away. Officials say it appears the crash was an accident. However, Oduro is facing multiple charges for leaving the scene. His daughter declined to comment.
The Bronx district attorney asked for bail to be set at $25,000, but the judge decided on $10,000 after learning that members of Oduro's church congregation would be putting up the money to get him out of jail.
Oduro is due back in court on June 10.
