A family is searching for answers after police say their loved one jumped off the Bruckner Expressway while handcuffed Thursday night.
As of the most recent update, 24-year-old Kevin Nivar is still in the hospital in critical but stable condition after jumping off the bridge during a traffic stop, police say.
Nivar's family is pleading for an update on his condition, saying they aren't receiving any more information on his status.
Police say they stopped a vehicle for improper display of license plate and illegal window tinting Thursday, and with probable cause, they searched the vehicle that contained five passengers, one of whom was Nivar.
Investigators say they then found Nivar in possession of oxycodone pills, and he was placed under arrested and into handcuffs.
They say that Nivar then intentionally jumped over concrete barriers, falling about 20 feet from the expressway.
"I understand he is arrested, I understand we cannot see him. We just want detailed information about his medical condition," says Erika Santos, Nivar's sister.
Nivar, Jose Madera, 33, and Xavier Santana, 27, all from the Bronx were charged with criminal possession of a firearm after police found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the engine compartment of the car.
