The family of an 18-year-old man who was stabbed multiple times and set on fire on Aug. 12 is calling on the district attorney’s office to charge everyone involved.
The family of Winston Ortiz rallied Thursday, demanding justice and marching from their home to the Bronx Criminal Courthouse.
Adones Betances, 22, was previously charged with murder and manslaughter in Ortiz's death and appeared in court on Thursday.
Ortiz’s family rallied outside the courthouse, calling Ortiz’s death pre-meditated, first-degree murder.
"We’re not going to tolerate anything like this to happen to any other kids, any other family member,” said father Winston Ortiz Sr.
Betances’ sister allegedly had a romantic relationship with Ortiz, which some believe fueled the incident. But family and friends say they believe there were more people involved.
"We want people like that not to be in our community, people like that to get the help that they need so they won’t be affecting other families,” said Winston Ortiz Sr.
News 12 reached out to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office for full details on Betances' court appearance Thursday. They said Betances was arraigned on first and second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter charges.
