Fans were protesting across the street from Yankee Stadium Wednesday because they say the match for the New York City Football Club should have been held there.
Instead, fans say the club's "home" match was being played in their rival's venue because their stadium did not meet certain qualifications.
NYCFC took on A.D. San Carlos of Costa Rica in Red Bull Arena, home of the New York Red Bulls.
Fans say there is no reason Yankee Stadium wasn't ready for the team to host A.D. San Carlos.
NYCFC says because of the winterization procedures Yankee Stadium had to undergo, the club immediately identified other potential venues within the city but they say ultimately none of the options the club submitted were approved, so Red Bull Arena was the only option.
A NYCFC spokesperson says the club worked tirelessly to get another venue approved in the boroughs. He also says anyone who is an NYCFC member got a free ticket to Wednesday's game because of the inconvenience
News 12 reached out to the Yankees for a response but has not heard back.
