Legendary rapper Fat Joe made good on a promise to some kids from the Bronx Thursday.

Back in October, Fat Joe challenged students at four local schools to improve their grades. The class with the best scores would receive new sneakers.

The Bronx rapper surprised the winners of the challenge at four middle schools, including a class at I.S. 217 School of Performing Arts in Longwood.

The challenge took into account student improvement, attendance and community involvement.

Fat Joe says his goal is to encourage the younger generation to fulfill their dreams no matter their circumstances.

He says he plans to do a second sneaker giveaway at the same schools, giving new students an opportunity to bring home customized sneakers.
