A building fire that broke out Friday night in Kingsbridge left 13 people hurt, according to officials.
Crews responded to the scene at 235 East 196 St. between Briggs and Valentine avenues. It began on the second floor of the building, It took 106 firefighters and EMS personnel to control the blaze.
"The fire got worse…It happened so fast. People were coming down the fire escape. It was kids, dogs, ladies – it was so crazy," said David, who lives in the building.
News 12 crews visited the building hours after the fire. Tenants said the fire started in apartment 2A, quickly spreading to the surrounding apartments.
The A line apartments have the most damage with blown out windows, charred household items and soot painting the walls that were once white.
Joseph, a tenant in the building described the 2A apartment as “crispy burnt.” His first-floor apartment had water damage from firefighting efforts.
The fire marshal will determine what caused the fire.
