A mother and her three children were critically injured after a fire broke out Sunday morning in their sixth floor Midwood apartment.
The FDNY said they received a call at 9:31 a.m. with reports of fire and smoke at 1347 East 17 St.
It took 75 fire and emergency personnel to tend to the blaze.
Deputy Chief James Smithwick said one of the four victims had to be rescued through the fire escape.
Smithwick added that the amount of clutter in the apartment made the rescue particularly difficult.
Smithwick said all of the victims were unconscious when they were rescued. They were taken to three different hospitals in critical condition.
The fire marshal launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
