The Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club teamed up with the NYPD Monday for a day empowering young women.
Since October is the month dedicated to national bullying prevention, domestic violence and breast cancer awareness, the NYPD's community affairs department decided to host "Girls Empowerment Day."
Female officers joined the Bronx girls to talk about these issues while having fun. Officer Lorraine Perez says these three issues really affect the young ladies in this community.
Juliana Gonzalez has been bullied in the past and lost her grandmother two months ago to breast cancer. She says the event helps girls like her "feel proud of ourselves."
