Bronx residents came out to Longwood Saturday to celebrate a stalwart with a street festival.

At La Placita of Father Gigante in front of the Saint Athanasius Church, music, food and entertainment honored the former priest at the church.

Gigante helped create two groups to redevelop the area. He was also given a certificate in recognition for his contributions to the people he’s served.

“These are my people, I've spent 50 years with these people,” says Gigante. “They appreciate it because I was there with them all the time. Yes, I did a lot I change the neighborhood made it better, so what. People are the people -- they're the best.”
