A Filipino filmmaker is sending a message and opening up a dialogue on hate crimes against Asian-Americans.
The film "Yellow Rose" is a coming-of-age story that details the story of a Filipina Texas teen named Rose.
Rose is played by actress Eva Noblezada.
The character is at a crossroads of pursuing her dream of becoming a country music singer or leaving the small town she calls home due to her family being torn apart by ICE.
As the second-largest Asian minority in America, director and creator Diane Paragas says Filipinos felt virtually invisible.
She says this film tackles race, immigration and the American dream.
The film gives the audience a glimpse of the struggle and the perseverance behind the character.
