Finnish airline Finnair plans to collect passenger and carry-on weight data from volunteers departing Helsinki Airport in February, April and May.
This data, which is voluntary and anonymous, will be used to “optimize Finnair’s current aircraft balance calculations,” according to the airline’s website.
Finnair will deliver average weight data to the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency which will be used for aircraft balance and loading calculations from 2025 through 2030.
Head of Ground Processes at Finnair Satu Munnukka ensures that “no information is collected that would allow participants to be identified.”
Finnair services flights through Terminal 8 in John F. Kennedy International Airport.
