Fire crews respond to manhole explosion in the Village of Larchmont

Fire crews are on the scene of a manhole explosion in the Village of Larchmont.

Fire officials received reports of a smoking manhole around 8:45 p.m. Friday. A few minutes after crews arrived, the manhole exploded, according to officials.

Two police officers were injured in the blast, but their injuries are believed to be minor.

Fire officials do not anticipate damage to nearby buildings. They said there was no immediate harm to the surrounding public.

The Village of Larchmont issued a public safety alert advising people to avoid the intersection of Chatsworth and Palmer Avenues.

There are road closures between Palmer Avenue and Myrtle Boulevard.

Con Edison is investigating possible underground electrical issues.
