Fire officials say a 61-year-old woman was killed during a house fire in Levittown Saturday.
The fire broke out at a home on Forrester Lane around 11:30 a.m.
Officials say firefighters attempted to get the victim out of the burning home, but were unsuccessful.
They say 75 firefighters from at least four different departments responded to the call and were able to extinguish the fire quickly.
Neighbors told News 12 that the 61-year-old woman may have had a medical condition that kept her bedridden.
Because of the fatality, the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office, Nassau police's arson/bomb squad and crime scene investigators carefully documented the scene as firefighters monitored for any flare-ups.
Fire officials tell News 12 the Red Cross is helping five people who lived in the home with temporary housing and other assistance.
