Firefighters battling a blaze Sunday inside the NYCHA Mill Brook Houses were met with complications after discovering lithium-ion batteries in one of the apartments.

The fire began around 1 p.m. on the fifth floor, firefighters told News 12. More than 100 firefighters responded, and the flames left shattered windows and neighbors concerned about safety.

“When I was coming down the stairs, there was white smoke on the floor. There was white smoke in the stairwell,” said one neighbor, Tiffany.

Residents were forced to wait outside as firefighters worked to contain the blaze and elevators stopped running.

On the fifth floor, three e-bikes and a motorcycle were seen parked in the hallway. A man who removed one of the e-bikes from the building declined to answer questions about the cause of the fire or any connection to it.

The FDNY said no injuries were reported.
