Winter-weary New Jersey residents are looking for a break from the cold and the snow. And they just may get some relief.
Relief from winter might be right around the corner. The snow has been prolific. Right now, it's the 8th snowiest winter since records have been kept and the cold has been never-ending since November. But weather changes are brewing.
Thursday night will consist of partly cloudy skies and temperatures that will once again slip to the freezing mark. The significant snow melt from Thursday will re-freeze. Black ice on untreated roads, sidewalks, driveways etc. will be an issue.
The end of the work-school week is looking fantastic. After a slippery start, a favorable wind and sunshine will allow the temperatures to climb to seasonable levels. This is the springboard to something even more wonderful for the first half of the weekend.
Saturday looks superb. The last day of February goes out on a sunny and possibly very warm note. It will not be record breaking, but that sunshine is going to feel so good when afternoon highs get 10 to maybe 15 degrees warmer than the seasonable average.
The perfection doesn't linger. Sunday looks a little sketchy at the start of the day. There is a chance a fast-moving weather system dips into the northern half of the state and shakes out a few snow showers. The snow may even accumulate. A lot? No, but some of areas may have a little cleaning to do once the snow ends or they could let the late day sun melt it away.
The early part of next week has a possibility of more snow and the temperatures look to be on the colder aside of seasonable.
Model guidance is hinting that New Jersey could be in for a significant warm-up. Even the coldest of the model solutions are suggesting that temperatures are in the 70s for a few days by the second week of March.
